Campers of the Week – Cooperation 2011

Today we took advantage of clear skies to use the camp telescope. Campers used our solar filter to look at sunspots on the surface of the sun. This was a great experience for most of the girls who have never had the opportunity to safely look at the sun, especially at over 100-times magnification. Campers from all age groups participated. Some girls were very curious about what sunspots are and why they are actually a bunch of little spots close together rather than just one. In the process, we learned a little about magnetism and how the sun “burns.”
We look forward to looking up at the starry sky on a future clear evening soon.

Junior Bs are having so much fun at camp! On Tuesday we all went to the movies and enjoyed the movie Kung Fu Panda 2. All of the campers were so excited! Wednesday was no exception, it was Point O’ Ritz which the peakers introduced during lunch time. Junior Bs had some time between lunch and dinner to work on their bunk theme. Their costumes went from Avatar to Lollipop girls. It was a lot of fun! Great job everyone!

Last night we all enjoyed Point O’Ritz, our costume dinner and show. Each bunk arrived in costumes they made together for hors d’oeuvres passed by the Peakers on main lawn. The Area Heads, with Sherie and Erin, made a grand entrance with a well-choreographed dance routine, followed by the Seniors in costumes set to the song I’ll Stand By You. After some time together we came into the dining room, also decorated for the event, and had a delicious dinner, and a spectacular array of desserts. It was so hard to pick just one.
After dinner we all gathered in the Rec Hall for a show. A superbly talented staff and Lindsay Meade, a performer from right here in the Adirondacks, showed off their talents for the campers. A big surprise was a group of our support staff from Poland who rendered a jaw-droppingly fantastic rendition in both singing and dance of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. This act drew a spontaneous standing ovation from everyone at camp.

Today’s tennis invitational was a smashing success! Six camps with a total of 180 girls came to our courts today. Our Inter B through Peak girls competed and earned a spot in every one of the finals, bringing home a total of 10 medals. We are all so proud of today’s amazing tennis and the efforts and energy of all the players. Congratulations to all the competitors.
