We are so excited that your daughter will be joining the Point O’Pines Family. We will be with you every step of the way to guide you and your daughter as you prepare for her first summer Point O’Pines. We can’t wait for her to experience the magic of the Point!
Ask a Question!
We will meet with you and your family before your daughter’s first summer to answer any questions you have about the Point O’Pines experience. This meeting also helps us to get to know your daughter individually before she comes to camp. During this meeting we will address a variety of topics (e.g., activity goals, health or dietary concerns, sleeping and hygiene habits) so we can fully understand your daughter’s individual needs. She will also get to know your daughter’s personality and will be excited to learn about your daughter’s friendships at home. This information is important for us so we can create bunks according to campers’ personalities, interests, and compatibility. Although we know that your daughter is incredibly excited for her first summer at camp, we also expect that she may feel a little bit nervous. These mixed feelings are completely normal and we will make sure to address any of those nervous feelings when she meets with your family and will help your daughter feel more comfortable and excited for her first summer at Point O’Pines.
If your daughter is interested in connecting with other campers in her age group before camp, we will arrange those connections after she meets your daughter and gets a sense of the qualities that she treasures in her friendships. We find that new campers get to know other campers best through individual connections as opposed to large group gatherings.
Before camp, we connect each of our new campers with older, returning campers who are eager to share their camp experiences and help new campers transition into the camp community. In the spring, we will send letters to all big and little camp sisters to provide them with the contact information for their camp sisters.
Your individual CampMinder account will be your guide for all of the logistics related to your daughter’s summer at Point O’Pines. You will find a detailed to-do list that will help you manage all of the pre-camp tasks including ordering uniforms, arranging for baggage to arrive at camp, and forms that need to be completed. We know that the process of completing this to-do list may feel overwhelming. We are in our camp office year round to help guide you through this process and answer any questions you may have.
The moment your daughter arrives at camp, she will be welcomed with great warmth and our vibrant Point O’Pines spirit. She will be greeted by our Directors and immediately connected with her counselors and bunkmates so they can begin the process of creating lifelong friendships. Her big camp sisters will be eagerly awaiting her arrival and excited so they can begin to share the magic of the Point with her. Camp will be full of excitement and energy, but we also know that your daughter may be experiencing some homesickness. This initial homesickness is very typical, and we have great strategies for helping campers work through these feelings so they can enjoy every aspect of their summer at POP. We are also aware that sending your daughter to camp for the first time can be hard for you. Please know that you can always reach out to a Director or to your daughter’s Area Head if you need that connection as you experience your daughter’s first time at sleepaway camp. Additionally, in the first week of camp, we will be in touch with you to provide a detailed update on how your daughter is adjusting to her summer home.
