It is with a heavy heart that we tell you that yesterday, May 19th, 2014, Hoby Rosen passed away. Hoby, with his wife Norma, founded Point O’Pines Camp for Girls in 1957. Together, they created a magical place, full of friendship and beauty. Hoby inspired us with his caring and love, and we have all benefited from our times together. After he passed the leadership of Point O’Pines to the Himoff family, now three decades ago, his visits kept our connection with his legacy for the children and even grandchildren of “Hoby’s Girls.” His traditions and impact live on in all our hearts.
Although our campers know all about Hoby, for those who were not lucky enough to spend time with him, he was a man with great presence who shaped his vision in the form of Point O’Pines. Hoby was not just a leader of our camp, he was also a talented sculptor, animator, photographer and poet. Our hearts go out to Andy, Julie and the rest of the Rosen family.
A ladder of friendship can always be climbed
If you take each step as it comes
Starting anew with no friendships to hold
A child begins all alone
So the child decided to go out and stare
To look for a friend that would always be there
A friend that would cherish each moment unitedly
Always to have a warm smile to lend
Sharing their feelings with helpful advice
Together they conquer their fears
Promising never to part
Keeping their friendship and making it grow evermore
Ascending further the child moves on
With a new found friend hand in hand
Together they journey in search of new friends
Acquiring more than just one
United the friendships will always be held
The intimate feelings have blossomed to one
They’ve reached their goal and know they’ve learned to love
Feelings of harmony now are complete
Though they may part our feelings live on
Together they conquer their fears
Promising never to part
Climbing for friendship will always live on in our hearts
