News From The Point

The Subs have had a very busy week. We spent two amazing days in Lake Placid where the girls enjoyed a gondola ride to the top of Whiteface Mountain, followed by a boat tour around Lake Placid. After settling in the hotel, we went for pizza and a movie. On the second day, we visited the Olympic Ski Complex where they took chair lifts up to the top of the 120 meter high ski jump! From the top, the girls could see many of the Adirondacks’ most famous High Peaks including Whiteface and Mount Marcy. After taking tons of photos we went back down to watch some of the locals practicing their jumps into a swimming pool. Next was on of the girls’ favorite parts, shopping in Lake Placid Village!

We returned to camp in time for their first Team Sing practice and their last social with the Brant Lake Camp boys. The last few days have been full of Team Sing songs and excitement for some of the girls’ favorite evening activities including Ice Cream Dream, Dance Show, Senior Night and, of course, DJ Jeff!

This has been an amazing summer. We have had a total of nine tournaments, competing against other camps, and Point O’Pines won the most medals in every single event. This summer we adopted the USTA “Quick Start” tennis program which allows us to work effectively with the 10 year old and under groups in a whole new way.

We experienced two fun-filled days of backpacking through the Adirondacks.

Our adventure began when we hiked 2.8 miles from Heart Lake to Marcy Dam. The trail was slightly challenging consisting of rocks, roots and catwalks. Once we saw the stunning lake we knew we had reached our destination. We explored the area for a perfect camping spot. We ended up agreeing on a flat, well hidden area.

After we set up camp, we climbed over rocks and took a walk around the lake. When the trail came to an end, we sat in a circle drinking hot chocolate and looking at the beautiful stars.

The next day, we hiked along Avalanche Pass that led to Avalanche Lake. We then went on a rock scramble with ladders and catwalks. The view of the lake was gorgeous. To top off the trip we ate at ADK Cafe and had Stewart’s.

The Subs have returned from their trip up to Lake Placid. The trip was a lot of fun. Many liked the Gondola ride up Whiteface Mountain most of all. What great weather for a spectacular view of the Adirondack high peaks!
