Girls Sleepaway Camp in the Adirondack Mountains in Brant Lake, New York
It was such a pleasure to see so many of you this weekend. The girls were over-joyed (and perhaps over-stuffed with candy) to see you, and to show off all that they have leaned and done so far. It went by so quickly, but what a weekend it was! Now, we are already on to the next half of our summer with a great sports meet for team competition yesterday, and Senior House headed off for their big trip this morning. Thanks so much for making visiting day such a great experience for all of us!
Tonight the camp gathered around the campfire and honored the campers and staff who have spent five or more summers at Point O’Pines. We were so excited to give special gifts to such a large number of campers and staff this year. There were some moving speeches, memories and even songs shared by the campers. As is our tradition, two of our youngest campers, the “Tiger Tis,” tried on the nine year jacket that was presented tonight to Peaker Olivia. Wow, what a great nine years it has been! Congratulations to all.
This special evening has been a favorite with every generations at the Point. We start with a special announcement in the dining room at lunch accompanied by an exciting breakout theme.
Following lunch, the campers return to their bunk and decide upon a bunk costume theme. Each bunk has time at arts and crafts to prepare their creation of the costume theme. We must be finished by 5pm when we have our traditional costume parade with the entire camp in costume, including staff, on the main lawn. During the showing of costumes we are treated to passed hors d’oeuvres and “cocktails.” Our Area Heads provide a special introduction to their costume theme and then we are off to an exciting entrance for the Seniors, who prepare a traditional parade down the steps of Senior House.
Then it is time for the Peakers to invite us into the dining room for a special dinner where they greet each camper and serve a special buffet dinner with many selections and goodies. One of the highlights is the dessert buffet at the end.
In the evening, we attend a cabaret show prepared by our talented staff. Singing, dancing, skits and a great array of talent is highlighted for our campers. We always look forward to this special evening, and Tonight’s the Night! Feel free to dress up at home.
