What is Aunt Emma’s Auction?
Aunt Emma’s Auction is one of the favorite evening activities. Each bunk, including their counselors, brings a bag of crazy items, and anything and everything that they can wear. Bunks sit together, and Sherie asks the campers if anyone has, for example, a yellow polka dot swim suit. Maybe someone in the bunk has something polka dot, something yellow and shorts and a shirt. They then need to convince their judge that it is close to the item requested. The judge has latitude in awarding points and the combinations are amusing and often hysterical. It is lots of fun and the campers and staff all love it.
Breakout 2012 – School’s Out
School’s out for the summer, and the Peakers are arriving in style on a big yellow bus. Breakout for Team Competition has begun. More news and pictures to come…
There was music throughout camp, the campers jumped out of bed and they ran up to main lawn in their PJs. Everyone knew right away it was Breakout 2012. The school bus arrived in the circle to the beat of the music. Peakers poured out onto Main Lawn and danced for the campers, who listened excitedly and took lots of pictures. The Peakers met with each group and announced the Blue and White teams. Quick team meetings introduced each camper to their team, and the first cheers of team competition filled camp. Another great team competition at Point O’Pines begins.
What is Cookout at the Point?
Every Thursday is cookout night. The age groups each have an area to meet for dinner with their counselors for cookout. The Area Heads oversee the cooking and preparation.
This is truly a favorite where we indulge on Hebrew National Hot Dogs, plenty of juicy beef burgers, Gardenburgers and our new addition grilled chicken burgers. We have all the accompanying favorites including tossed salad, plenty of chips and of course, pickles, relish, sauerkraut, and lemonade. The finale is our special homemade chocolate brownies. We spread our blankets and picnic with our bunk friends. Perfect.
Early Bird Activities
It was 7am when the sun was coming up over the lake and the mist was starting to lift upon a beautiful Point O’Pines morning. It was very calm on the lake but the silence was broken by the shouts and cheers of our girls working out at early bird swim practice. The Peakers were churning up the lake with a great early morning water ski session and every tennis court was buzzing with so many of the girls getting up early for special instruction and drills. Even some of the younger girls were jogging about camp with their counselors and Area Heads. Early mornings at the Point are truly remarkable.
