Girls Sleepaway Camp in the Adirondack Mountains in Brant Lake, New York
Last night the Inter B’s took us up into space with Gold Rush “On the Moon” 2013. In this game the campers explore camp looking for “gold” while contending with cops and robbers. This special event is the first major leadership role for the Inter B campers as they work towards their Peak summer. This year was a great success and we thank them for a great job!
Campers love to play and learn tennis when it is fun. Our expert instructors make every lesson into a great experience. We know that the girls acquire more skills when they are having fun too.
Every session starts with a presentation of skills planned by our tennis directors, and then each of our tennis groups (based on each campers’ experience) goes to their respective court and works on the development of that skill with an experienced instructor. Our tennis directors visit each of the courts, joining the pro on that court. The tennis directors offer teaching suggestions and encourage campers to join our pros for “one-on-one” instruction at Early Bird Tennis. Either games or practice can be great options for every camper at our special “Coaches Corner” choice sessions each afternoon.
We just wanted to post a little note to our camp parents and say how much we were delighted to see you this weekend! It is such a pleasure to see all of you and share the skills and growth that your daughters have experienced so far this summer. We have so much fun ahead, but seeing you was definitely a highlight. We are all finishing up such a great day of Team Competition, and are headed off to dinner and then a movie tonight.
This afternoon an intrepid group of campers joined Brandon and Jake for some telescope time. We learned how to use the camp telescope, a fairly large 5-inch refractor, with a special solar filter to look directly at the sun. The girls found two big sunspots and some small ones that we were able to sketch, as well as photograph. Campers learned that there can be magnetic storms on the sun, and interesting things to be seen even in a bright blue sunny sky. We hope you find these pictures as interesting as the campers did. If you do get a chance to see them safely, sunspots are really quite fascinating to look at.
