Girls Sleepaway Camp in the Adirondack Mountains in Brant Lake, New York
All of the preparations have been made. All the training is done. Now we are just so excited. In fact, the excitement here is just bouncing off the walls! We are so excited to meet new faces. So excited to see old friends. So excited for the Peak of 2015. So excited to see you all. Tomorrow! Yes, we will be together tomorrow. Enjoy your trip to camp, we are right here waiting for you!
As our whole waterfront staff is gathered at camp training and getting ready for all of you, we are showing off our new Point O’Pines waterfront. Many new dock sections have been assembled into two large shallow water areas for learning and fun, as well as two full high school or college pool size (called “SCY”) swim areas. Both competitive swim areas have eight lanes each, all with new lane lines, as well as new numbered regulation starting platforms. Out past the swim lanes, we have our ample deep water swim area with the water trampoline and two floating docks. We are so excited for all of you to get to camp and enjoy all that the waterfront has to offer.
We have been working for months getting the waterfront put together for you, from engineering drawings to the nuts and bolts. We filmed part of the process over the last week or two and wanted to share it with you. Make sure you thank our great maintenance staff when you get to camp!
In what we hope is one last bit of sad news, we are all thinking of Steve Bolton who was an ever present smile at Point O’Pines Camp for 47 years.
Steve passed away this Saturday after a long period of illness that had kept him from camp last summer, but the Point remained in his heart. Steve kept a collection of Point O’Pines keepsakes close to him throughout his illness. Steve, born in 1948, joined camp’s maintenance staff as a young man of high school age, and continued loyally as long as he could. In his early years, he was known to all for his incredible strength as everyone pitched in to make camp beautiful. Steve was meticulous, reliable and was always there when his help was needed in a way that set a standard for the next generation that had to fill his shoes. He never advertised his contributions, but everyone at camp enjoyed so many of the rewards of Steve’s effort and love for the Point. Steve dedicated his entire career to camp and the campers.
Steve, you will be forever be in our hearts.
Point O’Pines Camp for Girls is very excited to announce that we have been able to work with our neighbors over the winter to acquire an additional 100 acres adjacent to camp with about 1000 feet of additional shoreline of Brant Lake. We will now be able to enjoy this gorgeous wooded area, and, more importantly, we and our community will also benefit by ensuring that these woods continue to be attractive and a great complement to our camp and the beauty of Brant Lake. Our family has taken many hikes in these woods over the past few months and they are truly spectacular! The new property is illustrated below in green.
As you know, Point O’Pines Camp is nut free so that all the girls can have a safe and enjoyable summer. Here at camp, we research products to keep food nut free, but we need your help to keep other nut items out of camp. Did you know that many toiletry products can contain nuts? It is just as important that these items stay home, and that is why they are prohibited at camp too. In fact, we discovered that a member of our family had a nut allergy after a bath soap caused a serious nut reaction. We ask that you take a quick read through the ingredients in all toiletries you send to camp to protect our campers with severe nut allergies, and to save the inconvenience of you having to send up new toiletry products on the first day of camp.
