Shiny and New on the Waterfront

Point O'Pines Waterfront

As our whole waterfront staff is gathered at camp training and getting ready for all of you, we are showing off our new Point O’Pines waterfront. Many new dock sections have been assembled into two large shallow water areas for learning and fun, as well as two full high school or college pool size (called “SCY”) swim areas. Both competitive swim areas have eight lanes each, all with new lane lines, as well as new numbered regulation starting platforms. Out past the swim lanes, we have our ample deep water swim area with the water trampoline and two floating docks. We are so excited for all of you to get to camp and enjoy all that the waterfront has to offer.

We have been working for months getting the waterfront put together for you, from engineering drawings to the nuts and bolts. We filmed part of the process over the last week or two and wanted to share it with you. Make sure you thank our great maintenance staff when you get to camp!

In Memoriam, Steve Bolton

In what we hope is one last bit of sad news, we are all thinking of Steve Bolton who was an ever present smile at Point O’Pines Camp for 47 years.

Steve passed away this Saturday after a long period of illness that had kept him from camp last summer, but the Point remained in his heart. Steve kept a collection of Point O’Pines keepsakes close to him throughout his illness. Steve, born in 1948, joined camp’s maintenance staff as a young man of high school age, and continued loyally as long as he could. In his early years, he was known to all for his incredible strength as everyone pitched in to make camp beautiful. Steve was meticulous, reliable and was always there when his help was needed in a way that set a standard for the next generation that had to fill his shoes. He never advertised his contributions, but everyone at camp enjoyed so many of the rewards of Steve’s effort and love for the Point. Steve dedicated his entire career to camp and the campers.

Steve, you will be forever be in our hearts.

Spectacular New Property Added to Point O’Pines Camp

Point O’Pines Camp for Girls is very excited to announce that we have been able to work with our neighbors over the winter to acquire an additional 100 acres adjacent to camp with about 1000 feet of additional shoreline of Brant Lake. We will now be able to enjoy this gorgeous wooded area, and, more importantly, we and our community will also benefit by ensuring that these woods continue to be attractive and a great complement to our camp and the beauty of Brant Lake. Our family has taken many hikes in these woods over the past few months and they are truly spectacular! The new property is illustrated below in green.

In Memoriam, Mimi Reid

Mimi Reid

On this difficult day, we learned that Mimi Reid passed away just this morning. Mimi’s years at Point O’Pines inspired both campers and staff alike and created many of our Point traditions. Mimi started out teaching campers to sail, and continued her years as the Head Counselor. After Point O’Pines, she remained our good friend, and we will all treasure the times we shared.

Outside of camp, Mimi was dedicated to educating and inspiring young people as a teacher at Hadley-Luzerne High School and later as principal.

Our condolences go out to her family and all of the many whom her life touched. You have left an indelible impression on Point O’Pines, its campers, its staff and so many others. Thank you. We miss you, Mimi.

Mimi arranged for a memorial service at camp for the afternoon of Sunday, May 31st. More details of the memorial will follow.

In Memoriam, Chef Noble Masi

We woke up this morning to the sad news of the passing of our friend Chef Noble Masi. Noble who was our founding chef and is a continuing inspiration to us passed away yesterday with his family at his side. Our hearts are with his wife Robin, children John and Andrea and the entire Masi family.

Noble was with the Point from its start and served as Chef for 26 years, establishing the highest standard of excellence. We have treasured great times with Noble and Robin, and the kindness and generosity of spirit you both bring to the Point. From teaching his staff in the kitchen elegant grand hotel-style service, and creating Point O’Ritz in the process, to inspiring us to ever greater heights we thank you and celebrate you, Noble.

In addition to Noble’s legacy at the Point, many of you know that he mentored generations of chefs, both while teaching baking at the Culinary Institute of America and even after his “retirement”. He served as an ambassador for the CIA and encouraged aspiring chefs to pursue their dreams. In his years at Point O’Pines, many CIA students and chefs also spent summers learning from Noble working with him in the kitchen at the Point.

Last summer we were honored to have you attend Point O’Ritz as our guest, so you can see the continuing traditions of the Point.

Your legacy is forever in our hearts.
